I would like to personally thank all who contributed to the success of Theater 47’s newest production-- Takin’ Back My Name. It has been a journey but we have finally brought this show to the stage…our own stage! The sold out performances commemorated the opening of our dinner theater in South Chicago.
It was our mission to offer quality and affordable live entertainment served over a delicious meal. And we accomplished just that. Thank you for all of the positive reviews and compliments. Tina’s account of she and Ike’s story became public with the release of 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do With It, the film based on Tina Turner’s autobiography, I, Tina. Until June of 2015, when TV One’s Unsung featured the music icon, Ike’s story had been but a whisper. His truth was known only by those closest to him. “Sadly allegations of domestic abuse overshadowed Ike Turner’s musical genius and his contributions to Rock and Roll.
The stage production draws from information provided by Ike Turner himself from the pages of his own memoirs, in addition to interviews with family and friends. From a writer and director’s perspective, Ike’s backstory is intriguing, Takin’ Back My Name reveals another side of the story and allows you, the audience to draw your own conclusions. Takin' Back My Name features familiar tunes from the Ike and Tina library as well as other familiar tunes The show is filled with controversy and revelations that will keep you on the edge of your seats.
